The popular World War II first-person shooter game Brothers in Arms 3 for Android received an update this week in the Google Play Store with some improvements and minor bug fixes.

Published by Gameloft, Brothers in Arms 3: Sons of War is an arcade game. The game set during World War II, and sees you jumping into the boots of Sergeant Wright, challenged with leading his band of brothers through the war around them. Now, the game is available on the iOS, Android and Windows Phone.

An excellent game, well balanced and totally addictive. You know like everyone says this is a knock off of frontline commando, but this is better than frontline commando. This game ended up being way better than expected. It has a lot of explosions and brothers to help you on the mission, and the have consumables rocket launcher and sniper. The fact that you can play offline as well is a plus. Yes, you can play this game with no connection required though having it fun also.

Old Lady Tries to Smuggle 44 iPhone 4s Through Airport Security in Her Stockings!

Last week, at Israels Ben-Gurion International Airport, security officials stopped a 60-year-old woman who had been moving erratically through airport security. She said she was feeling sick. Not true! She actually had 44 iPhone 4s stuffed down her pants.

According to Israel-based Hareetz:

Last weeks would-be smartphone smuggler was reportedly dressed in a traditional Georgian outfit and walking with difficulty, which drew the attention of customs officials. When they approached the Israeli woman, she claimed she was not feeling well.

They agreed to accompany her, but told her she must first pass through the full-body scanner. The officials were amazed to find that, under all the wrappings of the traditional dress, the woman had hidden no fewer than 44 iPhones in her stockings. She was later released and a decision will be made this week on whether to indict her or to send her before the committee that determines fines.

Apple iPhone sales to hit 46 5 million in Q4 says analyst iOS Unlock repair Dr Mobiles Limited 09 5515344

Apple will enjoy a record-breaking quarter for iPhone sales in the run up to Christmas, an industry sage predicts, despite reports that manufacturing partners are struggling to meet the tech giant’s production targets.

In a note to investors, Sterne Agee analyst Shaw Wu forecasts that total iPhone sales will soar to 46.5 million in the three months leading up to the festive period. That compares to a figure of 26.9 million for the preceding quarter.

Wu’s forecast will come as a tonic to shareholders after Foxconn’s Peter Gou this week told delegates at a business expo that challenges presented by the iPhone 5’s design meant that the company’s factories are struggling to keep up with demand.

Gou’s comments came after Apple’s share price recently dipped after revealing worse-than-expected iPad 3 sales.

However, according to Wu Apple’s production capacity is much improved since the iPhone 5 landed back in September, suggesting that perhaps other manufacturing partners, such as Pegatron of Taiwan, could be picking up the slack.

Gou did not specify what particular problems are affecting production of the iPhone 5, but is thought that these relate to the handset’s alleged tendency to pick up scratches.

2012 Google Android and Smartphone News Update HTC One XL selling in Australia now!

SIM-free and unlocked HTC One XL is now available in Australia. Currently, Oz residents can only purchase the black version for AU$850 (€660). It will work on every GSM carrier in Australia and on Telstra’s LTE network.

In case you are thinking of importing one over, youd be glad to find out that the HTC One XL supports the needed European GSM and 3G bands as well. Theres even support for some of the upcoming LTE networks in Europe working on the 2600MHz band.

HTC One XL is similar to the One X we already reviewed, save for the chipset. The One XL uses a Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 SoC with a 1.5GHz dual-core Krait CPU and Adreno 225 GPU. The NVIDIA’s quad-core Tegra 3 does not offer native LTE support, which caused the chipset swap.

This makes Australia the second country to get a Krait-powered One X after the US, whereAT&T offers it. We already covered its chipset performance and found that its often doing better than the Tegra 3 in the One X.

Latest App News 2012 Microsoft Office app coming to iPhone iPad and Android in 2013 Dr Mobiles Limited

Microsoft is developing a much rumoured, much anticipated Mobile Office suite for iOS and Android, reports have confirmed.

According to “several sources close to Microsoft’s plans”, the software giant is hard at work in bringing its Word, PowePoint and Excel applications to the rival platforms, despite claims that it might decide to shun them to give its own Windows Phone operating system a competitive advantage.

Microsoft has already told The Verge that the news is in fact true, stating: “Office will work across Windows Phone, iOS and Android."

A press release from its Czech Republic arm confirmed that Office for iOS app will be available from March 2013, followed by an Android app in May. Users will require a Microsoft account for access to a read-only version of the app and a Microsoft 365 subscription for editing functionality.

SkyDrive integration for synchronising and accessing files over cloud is also expected.

What remains unknown is whether this will be a scaled back mobile edition or full-fledged software that features the sort of advanced capabilities available on the desktop applications. In any case, the news should be boon for iFans and Fandroids who like to work on the move.

Toshiba R400 in the hands of two Aussie Influentials

Jon has worked with Tom Cruise, Richard Branson, Kylie Minogue, and now he can add Hugo Ortega to the list! Well done Jon, youre a true ambassador.

Today turned out to be a blessing in disguise. What I had planned was a firsthand look at the brand new Toshiba R400 (don’t panic, I did that) but what ended up happening was rather special. Jon Dee, Founder of Planet Ark and Australian Spokesman for Al Gores “an inconvenient truth” DVD, is a real gentleman and more than that he’s a geek like us. As the ultimate envangelist for all things ecological and Green Jon can frequently be spotted driving his Toyota Prius, planting trees, or living it up in his “solar powered” home!

What I didn’t realize is that Jon has been a long time fan of the UberTablet blog, and more importantly, of Microsoft’s Tablet PC. So at first when he made contact and offered me a look at the new R400 (as seen on Engadget) I didn’t actually believe he had one, until I got there that is! Jon’s primary intention with tablet PC is to become, and BE, paperless in every way humanly possible; and after watching this video I’m sure you’ll agree he’s doing a bloody good job of it.

So sit back with your favourite beverage and watch as one of the Globe’s premiere environmentalists talks through his experience as one of the first owners of a Toshiba R400. He’s already owned it for two weeks, which ironically, when calculated backwards, is about a day after its CES 2007 launch. (To not let Jon take all the glory you’ll note the diminutive little device I tout – after seeing the R400 I now call it the once famous Q1)

In and out and out again

I am preparing to go away again (more on that later) and have been in and out of the office/blog. I am still loving my gadget life at present and would like to take a moment to catch you up:

• OQO 02 is still running Vista Ultimate and I have recently installed PDF Annotator which is so much fun to play with (watch Robs InkShow)
• I am now the proud owner of a Samsung Q1U-V! Yep, thats Tablet number...15, 16, 17...I lost count sorry.
• I am now the proud owner of an Amtek T770. This machine is pretty unique in that it is very low priced and yet features onboard camera, kickstand, Wifi, Bluetooth and lots more. It is a little clumsy as it is quite large, and, it tends to run hot (although not as hot as its predecessor the T700).
• I have received a Nova SunPad and it ROCKS!!! More on that soon!
• I have a Storm Trooper coming with a yet to be seen Accessory! (If you dont know what the storm trooper is just head over to GBM and see if you can find out. *smiles*

What’s in a Tablet OS

Right now, with a slew of new tablet releases making headlines around the globe, including the Samsung Galaxy Tab and the TegaV2, as well as a number of still planned releases from netbook giants Acer and MSI, the bulk of discussion has been about how this new consumer demand will play out over the next five years or so.

And while the hardware being manufactured is increasingly powerful, allowing people to do things never before possible with mobile devices, I’m interested in what an effective tablet OS really looks like. Can a tablet be truly effective for enterprise users, or even advanced household users, if it’s just a ramped up version of an OS developed for mobile phones.

The iOS is a perfect example – a software system that, while deemed restrictive by many iPhone users, still provides a decent user experience, and yet on a tablet seems much more stifling. But, there are more than just “closed OS” issues on the tablet market right now. Recent issues have developed with the open model used by Google for their Android OS.

Since Android is available for licensing and free use for any manufacturer that meets technical requirements with their devices, the OS is appearing on a wide array of devices – including advanced devices like the Galaxy Tab and extremely budget devices like the GenTouch Latte being sold for less than $200.

But, most consumers don’t know the difference between the different versions of Android, leading to issues between Google and manufacturers when devices make it appear that users will have access to the Android Marketplace and clearly do not.

What Should an OS Offer?

So, the big question now is what an OS needs to offer to be effective for a tablet device. What does a tablet need that a smart phone does not? To start with, it should be flexible. It should allow users to type naturally, input data manually (with or without stylus) and access the same software they are used to using on their desktop.

The iOS does not do these things and right now Android is working on it. With Gingerbread recently announced and a handful of tablets on tap from Motorola and Acer this November or December, we will soon see how the 3.0 OS from Google handles more advanced applications. Of course, we must remember that this is still an OS developed first and foremost for phones and while tablets are becoming more common and are likely figuring into the equation, Google knows where the demand is at the moment.

So, what is the solution? Honestly, I don’t think anyone knows just yet. For me, having access to advanced applications through Windows is a must on a tablet, and software like Thinix can make it more intuitive on a touch screen. It remains to be seen how the new RIM operating system will handle the PlayBook or how Gingerbread will perform, but we know one thing for sure – tablets are becoming more mainstream and whether these OS developers realize it or not, their software will need to cater to more than just casual users and entertainment apps in the very near future if they want to remain successful. 

Interestingly one solution that is sparking interest comes from Tegatech in the newly released TEGA v2. It is the first Tablet in the world to offer both Windows 7 and Android in one device. Its called “dual-boot” and while its not quite perfect, it provides a solution for many users. On the Windows side users have access to all their preferred Microsoft Applications, and on the Android side battery life is optimized and the touch experience enhanced through Android. Again I don’t know if this is the perfect choice but it sure opens the TEGA v2 to a breadth of usage scenarios not available prior to its release.

Is the Future in Touch Computing

Chatting on a couple of email threads I have realized that UMPC will soon be all about the preferred input method. There seems to be a paradigm shift occurring, and I’ve defined this for some time now, towards Tablet PC being seen as a “small pc” rather than a pen based computer. Whether it carries a keyboard or pens it is still going to be a question of your preferred input method, or rather, what are you prepared to put up with? With manufacturers missing the mark on many of the UMPC it seems that these “small PCs” of the future will carry one feature in common, touch!




A friend of mine sent me this picture of the Canova Dual Touch Screen Laptop (source: Bornrich). The first thing that sprang to mind was “how cool!” It seems the dilemma of keyboard as your preferred input has been addressed and so has multi-touch on Tablet. Because these two screens are touch enabled it means a user could call up a software keyboard and type as usual or pull out a pen and use both screens at once.

What was most interesting is that my friend, who happens to be a C4 quadriplegic, might have a completely different view to you or I. In fact he might see this as a savior, where you or I might assume it is a gimmick. I still remember when I sent him his first look at a Tablet, boy that raised a lot of eyebrows. I for one am totally enamored with the qualities of the Touch Screen. It makes computing at the speed of thought one step closer, and, as a result has increased my productivity (or at least perceived productivity).

Here are five reasons I like touch:

• The “Start” menu; I can always hit “start” with my fingers/or thumb faster than any mouse or joystick
• Closing windows is always faster (ALWAYS)
• Snipping tool and a fingernail are my new best friend. With this combination I have spread more mail clippings than I care to remember
• Sex Factor; touch is sexy and it turns heads. “Put your finger on it” is my new catch cry…try it! LOL
• Lastly, cost! Touch has brought down the cost of a traditional Tablet PC by more than half, and that has to be a good thing.

Fear of Ruin His image HTC Do Not Want to Play in Low End Cell Phone

When Samsung, Motorola and other vendors have released a low-end handsets, HTC has so far seems not to follow the lead of its competitors were. In fact, through the recent statement from its CEO, HTC reiterated that it has no plans to play in low-end mobile phone segment.

As quoted in The Wall Street Journal, reported today although HTC is focusing to tap into emerging markets, the company has no intention to go into low-end mobile phone segment.

HTC CEO Peter Chou, insisting that it did not want to destroy the image of the companys brand.

"We do not want to destroy the image of our brand," said Peter Chou as reported by the WSJ.

To be accepted in its main markets and the upper middle segment, HTC seeks to use better materials in its products.

"We strive to use better materials to make better products that offer premium taste." Chou continued.

HTC through the narrative of the CEO is also quite optimistic for the region up the smartphone market in China and developing nations. In which he said in 2012 was the possibility of sending the device to China would be three times that of the previous year delivery. While shipments to Indiaand other emerging markets mentioned will continue to rise.
